Since there are many question about how to become moderator, the requirement and stuff ( which you can find out by yourself if you are not lazy), I will share what I know and any question related to it will be link to this page. If any user or reader have something to add and considered as a good opinion, I'll put it on here and edit this content later.
Chat Moderator is a user who keep watch over the chat room and have the power or clearance to mute, kick and ban ( depends on the rank, different chat site different tools but essentially all the same) users from the Chat if they are misbehaving.
Chat mods should make visitors feel welcome, and not uncomfortable in any way. If a Chat Moderator purposely does make you feel uncomfortable ( don't be too sensitive and cry baby though), please consult to one of the higher rank i.e Site Admin. Their behavior should reflect policy. Chat Moderators are identifiable in chat unique icon visible next to their name.
Don't be overjoy of being a moderator, they have Duties:
- Keep watch over the chat making sure the chat guidelines are being followed.
- Answer questions regarding the rules, policies, or anything related to chat (pointing users to correct pages, reference, etc).
- Issue a warning before muting, kicking, or banning someone from chat. (Kicking a user from chat, just because they asked to be is not permitted. Well unless they are pain in the ass and keep pestering you)
- Resolving conflict diplomatically, softly, peacefully, swiftly.
- Maintain an overall mature and friendly demeanor when interacting with other users.
How to enforcing rules?
Moderators are expected to only mute or kick users who continue to break policy after being given one warning minimum. Unless they are out of the line, i.e posting nudes on main chat, profile pic, or even on private chat without the other user agreement on their private chat. Most chat site don't tolerate this action no matter of what, I personally ban them Immediately. If the chat is moving very fast, the warning may be missed by the user in which case the warning should be given via private message.
Users who knowingly break the rules on a continual or daily basis do not need to keep being warned or kicked before a ban may be issued
There are some general requirements for becoming a chat moderator
I have 3 keywords for it; Seniority, Activity, and maturity.
- You have been a registered member on the chat site for a period of time ( don't ask me how long there is no specific time for that, the longer the better).
- You have not been site-blocked or chat-banned.
- You have been consistently active for a period of time.
- You must be familiar with the chat rules, policies and practices.
- You have been seen helpful around the community and an overall mature individual. (This is the most Important thing that few people have it).
Since I talk on CHATOGO, this moderating stuff is voluntary Job, don't expect too be paid. The owner is good enough establishing this chat site for free to use.
